Create an account and sign in
Create your Guardioz account at https://app.guardioz.com/, confirm your email address, and sign in. At the end you are signed in, your organization exists, and Guardioz shows the page where you add your first server.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- An email address where you can receive mail. When you register with an email address and a password, Guardioz sends a confirmation link there. You confirm the address before your first sign-in.
- A name for your organization. Your servers belong to it, and you can rename it later.
You need no credit card. Guardioz asks for no payment details when you create an account, and the application has no payment function: the Team plan is ordered by email.
Creating an account, with the form or with Google or GitHub, accepts the Terms of Service, the Data Processing Agreement and the Agent Software Licence. The registration page and the sign-in page link to them, and the Privacy Policy explains how Guardioz uses your data.
Create an account with an email address and a password
Section titled “Create an account with an email address and a password”-
In your browser, open https://app.guardioz.com/. Guardioz shows the sign-in page with the heading Sign in to Guardioz.
-
Click Register. Guardioz opens the page Create your Guardioz account.
-
Complete the Name, Organization, Email and Password fields.
When you leave the Email field, Guardioz fills Organization with a name taken from your address. A name that you typed yourself is kept. When the form comes back with an error, check the Organization field before you submit it again: leaving the Email field then replaces the name in it.
A password needs at least 8 characters, and your browser stops a shorter one with its own message. The upper limit is 72 bytes: for the letters a-z and A-Z, digits and punctuation that is 72 characters. A letter with an accent, such as é or ü, and a letter of another script take more than one byte, so a password with them reaches the limit sooner. Guardioz refuses a longer password with Password must be at most 72 characters.
Upper and lower case in the address do not matter. Guardioz stores the address in lower case, so
Anna@example.comandanna@example.comare the same account. -
Click Create your account. Guardioz opens the page Check your inbox and sends a confirmation link to your address.
Registering does not sign you in. You sign in after you confirm the address.
If the address already has a Guardioz account, you see the same Check your inbox page. Guardioz then sends the email You already have an account - Guardioz instead of a confirmation link. It sends at most one such email per account every three minutes, so a second registration inside that window sends nothing and the page looks the same. Nothing in the existing account changed, and the password that you typed was not saved. Sign in with the password of that account, or reset it. See Manage your account.
Confirm your email address
Section titled “Confirm your email address”Opening the link does not confirm the address. Mail scanners open links in incoming mail on their own, so the confirmation takes a deliberate click on the page that the link opens.
-
Open the email Confirm your email - Guardioz. The link in it is valid for 48 hours. An older link no longer works, and Get a new confirmation link says how to get another one.
-
In the email, click the button Confirm Email. Your browser opens the page Confirm your email address, which names the address that you are confirming.
-
On that page, click Confirm email address. Guardioz shows Email confirmed.
Confirming does not sign you in. On the Email confirmed page, click Sign in, and then sign in with your email address and password.
After the first confirmation, Guardioz sends one more email, Welcome to Guardioz, from
alicja.kucharczyk@guardioz.com. It is a short note from the Product Owner of Guardioz, and a
reply to it goes to her. Guardioz sends it once per account.
Get a new confirmation link
Section titled “Get a new confirmation link”If no email arrives after a few minutes, or your link no longer works, look in the spam folder first. To get a new link, sign in with your email address and password while the address is still unconfirmed. The sign-in page then tells you to open the confirmation email, and Guardioz sends a new link. Guardioz sends at most one confirmation email per account every three minutes, so a second sign-in inside that window shows the same text and sends nothing. During a pause after 5 incorrect passwords in a row, the sign-in answers Incorrect email or password and sends no link: wait for the pause to end, or reset the password, which also confirms the address. For the other causes, see Sign-in and email problems.
Sign in with your email address and password
Section titled “Sign in with your email address and password”-
In your browser, open https://app.guardioz.com/. Guardioz shows the sign-in page with the heading Sign in to Guardioz.
-
In the Email field, enter the address of your account. In the Password field, enter your password.
-
Click Login. Guardioz opens the Findings page. When your account has no server yet, Guardioz opens the page Select the platform you want to monitor instead.
A refused sign-in shows Incorrect email or password, with this line under it:
After 5 incorrect passwords in a row, sign-in with a password pauses for up to 15 minutes. You can reset your password at any time. The second line appears with every refused password sign-in. The message is the same for each of these causes:
- The address has no account.
- The password is wrong.
- The account signs in with Google or GitHub and has no password.
- The account is disabled.
- The account is in a pause after 5 incorrect passwords in a row. The pause lasts 30 seconds, doubles with each further incorrect password, and lasts at most 15 minutes. During the pause even the right password gets this message. A finished password reset ends the pause, and sign-in with Google or GitHub is not affected by it.
Guardioz has no page that enables a disabled account again. Write to contact@guardioz.com when your account is disabled.
A sign-in with the right password on an address that is not confirmed yet gets a different message, which asks you to open the confirmation email, except during a pause. For the other causes, see Sign-in and email problems.
Sign in with Google or GitHub
Section titled “Sign in with Google or GitHub”The Google and GitHub buttons are on the sign-in page and on the registration form.
When no Guardioz account uses your address yet, Guardioz creates the account at the first
sign-in with a provider. It confirms the address at once, so it sends no confirmation email. It
sends the email Welcome to Guardioz from alicja.kucharczyk@guardioz.com once, when it
creates the account.
Before your first sign-in with GitHub, open the email settings of your GitHub account. When
every verified address there ends with @users.noreply.github.com, add a real address and
verify it first. Guardioz would otherwise take the alias as your account address, and mail to
the alias is not delivered.
-
In your browser, open https://app.guardioz.com/, and then click Google or GitHub.
-
Approve the request at the provider. When Guardioz creates the account now, it opens the page One last step.
-
In the Organization name field, keep the name that Guardioz proposes from your address or enter another one, and then click Continue. Guardioz opens the page Select the platform you want to monitor.
Later sign-ins with the same provider open Guardioz directly.
Which address becomes your account address:
- Google: the address of your Google account, and only when Google reports that address as verified.
- GitHub: an address that GitHub has verified, read from the email list of your GitHub
account. Guardioz does not use the address on your public profile as your account address. It
takes your verified primary address, unless that address is an alias that ends with
@users.noreply.github.com, and then another verified address.
A provider that is not available has a faded button and the tooltip Google login is not configured yet or GitHub login is not configured yet. Sign in with your email address and password instead.
Connect a provider to an account you already have
Section titled “Connect a provider to an account you already have”You can sign in with Google or GitHub to an account that you created with an email address and a password. Sign out first, and then click the provider on the sign-in page. While you are signed in, a provider button does not start the connection.
Guardioz connects the provider to the existing account when the address from the provider is the account address. That address must also be confirmed. For an account whose address was never confirmed, Guardioz refuses and shows this message:
An account with this email address already exists here and its address was never confirmed. Sign in with your password to get a new confirmation link, or reset the password, before connecting a provider.Confirm the address first, and then connect the provider.
Enter your organization name
Section titled “Enter your organization name”An account created with Google or GitHub has no organization yet, so Guardioz asks for a name on the page One last step. Until you enter a name and click Continue, Guardioz sends you back to that page from every page that needs a signed-in account. Logout in the top navigation still works. Registration with an email address and a password asks for the organization on the registration form instead, so the step does not appear.
Guardioz creates a new organization with the name in that field. A name that matches another organization does not join it, and your servers stay visible only to your own account. To rename your organization later, see Manage your account.
Sign out
Section titled “Sign out”In the top navigation, click Logout. Guardioz ends the session in this browser and opens the sign-in page. Sessions in other browsers and on other devices stay signed in. To end those as well, see Manage your account.
If something goes wrong
Section titled “If something goes wrong”- Sign-in and email problems covers the confirmation email, refused sign-ins, provider sign-in and the password reset.
